Speaking of Korea without knowing Hanbok is not
complete, because Hanbok is an important part of Korean culture, and play a
significant role in spreading Koreanwave all over the world.
Hanbok is a type of traditional Korean clothing that has been
worn by Korean people for hundred of years. Korean nowadays wear Hanbok for
special event such as wedding and festive days like chouseok and seollal.
But recently, Hanbok become a trend among Korean celebrities and
gain back its popularity not only in Korea but also outside Korea. People now
wear Hanbok for formal or semi formal events. Hanbok design today is more
varied with modern-touch while maintaining its original shape.
The beauty of Hanbok is undeniable because of its artistic lines and vibrant colors. Some
traditional accessories make Hanbok even more dazzling. Anyone who wears Hanbok
always look beautiful and attractive.
Hanbok also covers all body and loose fitting so it’s
appropriate and suitable for me as a muslimah who wears hijab. I have once worn
Hanbok on “Hanbok Experiences” provided by Korean Cultural Center in Jakarta. On that program we learn how many layers of Hanbok
and how to wear them.
Actually Hanbok this time is more simplified. Men just
need to wear pants (baji) and a jeogori (basic upper garment of Hanbok) or magoja
(outer coat worn between jeogori and overcoat), with durumagi to complete their
look.
Hanbok for women consist of jeogori (upper garment),
chima (a skirt) and undergarments (usually pants). It also has otgoreum (cloth
strings). We can’t tie this otgoreum
casually. Although it looks simple there is a special method to tie them. You
can look at the picture below:
It’s really memorable experience to wear Korean
traditional clothing. Now, there are some Indonesian who make and sell Hanbok. It
turns into a profitable home-made business because many Indonesian like Hanbok
and do not hesitate to spend money to buy it.
And here I am wearing beautiful Hanbok, feel like
princess … :) :)
